Can silicon carbide abrasive filament run wet grinding applications?
Yes - wet grinding is fully supported, and it often improves both finish and brush life.
Silicon carbide filament is widely used with water or coolant in stone lines and metal finishing machines. Water lowers the working temperature, suppresses dust and flushes removed material out of the brush face.
Why the filament survives water
- PA612 matrix: Moisture absorption is far lower than PA6/PA66, so filaments keep stiffness in slurry.
- Bonded grit: Grains are locked into the strand, not coated, so they do not wash out.
- Stable cross-section: Wet filaments do not swell or soften the way cheaper nylon bases do.
What wet running changes
- Finish: Water reduces heat marks and gives a more uniform scratch pattern.
- Brush life: Cooler, cleaner contact typically extends usable life versus dry running.
- Housekeeping: Slurry must be filtered; recirculating clean water keeps cutting consistent.
